Service Animals vs Companion Animals
Over the past few fair seasons some of our member fairs have had issues with fairgoers wishing to bring pets into a fair claiming they are a "service animal".
The ADA defines a service animal as "any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability". Pets that are companions are not considered service animals and therefore can be denied access to any fair who has a policy against pets.
Click here for more information from the Connecticut Attorney General's Office regarding service animals.
New USDA Regulations Regarding use of 4-H Logo
The USDA has issed new regulations regarding the use of the 4-H emblem and logo. Anyone wishing to use the emblem or logo must first obtain permission from the state 4-H office. County offices are not authorized to give the necessary permission. The state 4-H office has said they will grant permission to any of our member fairs who request it but the permission must be requested and granted before the emblem and logo are used. You must contact the state 4-H office at UConn either by email at CT4H@uconn.edu or by mail to Nancy Wilhelm, Program Coordinator, State 4-H Office, University of Connecticut, 13767 Storrs Road, Stors, CT 06269-4134.
